So, as we've probably all done, I went ahead and created a TOS character (Roger Glenn Neal). Working through the first few missions, I have to say I'm really impressed with the effects and storyline... up until you get dropped off at 2410 ESD.
The whole part about updating your uniform to fit in with the modern world... CRAP! Yes, it makes sense, storywise... but dammit, I created a TOS character to play a TOS character--I already have a 25th C Fed toon.
I loved the "grainy" effect from the TOS missions... It got a little old after a while, but now that it's gone, I kind of miss it.
I hated that all the TOS-styles ships are Zen-purchases. So, now I'm a Lv15 Lt. Cmdr, still piloting a LT ship because I don't want to fly a 25th C ship, bit the same reason I didn't want to change my uniform.
The Temporal Agent side-missions are clearly a re-hash of the Delta Recruit objectives... Which is okay. Gives my Delta and TOS characters a slightly different play experience than my "native" toons.
I'm planning on keeping with the TOS theme as long as possible... once I am no longer able to complete a mission because my ship is too low of a tier to compete in PvE I'll be forced to upgrade--or buy the AoY Pack--but I'm definitely keeping the uniforms and TOS-era phasers.
I have noticed, you can't go back to the TOS Sector Space or ESD, so there's no way to pick up era-appropriate items from vendors, after Caleb IV. However, once you reach end-game, you can still replay the first few missions and collect top-tier marks of the original mission rewards, such as the proper phaser weapons and ship equipment.
Anyways, I'm rambling right about now. Anyone else have some input on their own impressions?
